At the University of Lusaka (UNILUS), research is a cornerstone of academic excellence, innovation, and national development. The University is committed to producing high-quality, impactful, and policy-relevant research that addresses contemporary challenges at local, regional, and global levels.

Through interdisciplinary collaboration, strategic partnerships, and a growing research culture, UNILUS seeks to advance knowledge, inform policy, foster innovation, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.

The University promotes research excellence across diverse fields including business and economics, health sciences, law, education, information technology, agriculture, governance, and sustainable development.

UNILUS has grown from 71 students in 2007 to over 11,500 students today, with more than 2,000 Master's students and over 60 PhD students from across the region — a testament to our commitment to building a dynamic research community.

🌟 Innovation Spotlight — June 2024
AgriSense: AI-Powered Crop Disease Detection for Zambian Smallholders
A team of UNILUS Computer Science and Agriculture students has developed AgriSense, a mobile application using machine learning to detect maize crop diseases via smartphone photos. The app is currently being piloted in Mkushi district in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture.

UNILUS is committed to the highest standards of research integrity, ethical conduct, and responsible innovation across all disciplines.

Research Ethics Committee
The UNILUS REC reviews all research involving human participants, communities, animals, or sensitive data. Clearance is mandatory before data collection commences.

Academic Integrity & Plagiarism
All research outputs are subject to plagiarism screening via Turnitin. The University enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy on research misconduct.

Data Management & Privacy
Researchers must comply with UNILUS data management standards covering storage, sharing, anonymisation, and the retention of research data.

Conflict of Interest
All researchers are required to disclose actual or perceived conflicts of interest in funded projects, publications, and consultancy engagements.

UNILUS has developed guidelines on the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools in research, writing, and data analysis — aligned with international best practice.

Open Access Policy
UNILUS encourages open-access publishing to maximise the societal impact of research. Support is available for article processing charges in qualifying journals.
