Master of Laws in Banking and Finance Law

The LLM in Banking & Finance Law examines the legal and regulatory frameworks governing banking, financial markets and financial services. Key themes include banking regulation and supervision, securities and capital markets, corporate finance, financial crime and compliance, and the impact of global financial crises and reforms. Graduates are prepared for roles in banks, financial institutions, regulatory bodies, international organisations and specialist law firms advising on financial transactions and financial regulation. The LLM is structured over two semesters, with students beginning and completing a master’s dissertation in the second semester in line with the School’s dissertation guidelines and timetable. The degree is designed to be completed within 12 months (1 year) and is open to applicants who hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Lusaka or any other recognised university. Due to the specialised nature of the programme, there are no credit transfers or exemptions. The LLM is offered by distance mode only, combining a three-week residential period at the start of each semester (which may be extended) with self-study and virtual classes held from 17:30 to 20:30 hours, while all final examinations are written in person at the end of each semester.
